Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions, announces the release of a new version of Kaspersky Password Manager, a solution that ensures the secure creation, use and storage of passwords and other confidential data.
Kaspersky Password Manager allows logins and other confidential information, e.g. PIN codes to SIM cards and program keys to be securely stored in an encrypted database. Cybercriminals are not able to access the stored information even if the computer is lost or stolen. A strong master password, which Kaspersky Password Manager helps to create, allows users to access the encrypted database, or alternatively access can be gained by employing the unique features of a user's mobile phone or any other device with a USB or Bluetooth interface. Access to the database will be provided automatically when the mobile device is connected to the computer and will be blocked when it is disconnected, ensuring reliable data protection in addition to the master password. The new version of Kaspersky Password Manager also allows the setting of a dedicated PIN code, which ensures that only the owner of the device can access it.
The product can automatically recognize and fill in text fields in lengthy online forms and authorization dialog windows in password-protected websites and Windows applications. The product helps the user identify themselves to a website or a program with just one click of their mouse. The new version now also provides 'Auto-save' and 'Auto-complete' functionality for more browsers, including Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla FireFox.
The new version of Kaspersky Password Manager enables the use of one login and password for multiple accounts. This may be useful, for example, when the same access parameters are requested by a vendor for all of their services. Any changes of the registration data are automatically associated with the relative accounts and saved to a backup copy of the database.
The new version also allows the sharing of database registration information with family and friends. The necessary information will be saved to a dedicated file which can only be accessed via Kaspersky Password Manager. The information is encrypted, ensuring that it will not be intercepted when sent via unprotected public communication channels. After a period of time, Kaspersky Password Manager will issue a reminder that the account information has been shared with another user and will suggest modifying the parameters.
It is not necessary to install the password database on a device; it can be launched from removable media such as a USB flash drive. The solution allows several of its databases to be combined, e.g. the regular database on your PC and a portable one on a storage device, ensuring that the information is complete. It is also possible to transfer secret information held in browser caches and password managers provided by other vendors to the common database.
Kaspersky Password Manager also provides anti-phishing functionality that prevents users from completing online forms on dangerous phishing websites. In addition, the product contains a virtual keyboard that stops keyloggers from recording a user's keystrokes.
"The login / password combination remains the most popular authorization method to date. At the same time, all kinds of online financial services are actively developing. If a user were to lose their login credentials for these services, it may result in very serious consequences. Therefore users need convenient, secure password management systems that save them from having to remember multiple logins to different services or manually entering their credentials," said Dmitry Ustyuzhanin, Product Marketing Director for Kaspersky Lab. "Our Kaspersky Password Manager successfully meets this challenge, and more importantly, its new version provides our users with a still higher level of protection, convenience and flexibility."
