About VB certification

The VB100 team developed a simple scoring system, splitting problems into levels of severity and rating them depending on whether they occurred in normal use or only in high-stress situations, ranging from "Solid" for products with no issues at all, through "Stable", "Fair" and "Buggy" for those with increasing numbers of minor issues.

In the April 2012 tests, only half of the participating products achieved a rating of "Solid" or "Stable". 28 products were rated only "Fair" or "Buggy".

13 out of 57 products failed to get any kind of certification in this rounds of tests, including F-Secure, Sophos, and TrustPort. Five products were not included in the report due to instability which prevented the test lab from installing and/or using them. Comodo, Symantec (Norton) and WebRoot did not participate in the April 2012 tests.
